Sources & Verification

Where information comes from

Our preferred sources are the original government departments, local councils, benefit administrators, charity websites, charity regulators and official programme application pages. A charity register confirms an organisation’s registration; it does not prove that a particular grant is open.

What each support record should show

  • Provider and official website or application link
  • Who the support may help and the geographic area covered
  • Nature of the support and the route to apply or get advice
  • Availability or any known restrictions
  • Source URL and, where available, the latest editorial review date

What a check means

A successful link check is not proof that eligibility rules, award amounts or opening dates are unchanged. Where details are incomplete we direct visitors to the provider. We do not guarantee that every programme is currently accepting applications.

Regional differences

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have different programmes and eligibility rules. Local council schemes may vary within a nation. Use the location information on each record and check the administering authority.

Royal connections

Royal patronage, a royal founding relationship and the name “Royal” are different facts. We aim to identify the actual connection and cite the relevant official source rather than treating them as interchangeable.
